Church of St. Michael Archangel is the oldest and most important state-protected monument of Litvínov. It was built in the years 1685 - 1694. Archbishop of Prague, Jan Bedřich of Wallenstein, deserved the position of this temple. The architect of the Early Baroque building was the painter and architect Jan Baptist Mathey, originally from France. He spent his summer in Italy, where Jan Bedřich from Valdštejn called him to Prague in 1675. In twenty years of his work in the Czech lands, he has designed a number of buildings. The first Prague Archbishop's Palace. His last work was the Litvinov church.
